The holidays typically bring an increase in energy usage, whether it be
plugging in decorative lights or playing host to out of town guests. Use these tips and resources to keep high energy bills under wraps:

Lighting
Use LED Lights Switch the lights on your decorative displays to Light Emitting Diode (LED) lights. LED lighting uses 90% less energy than incandescent lights.

Put decorations on a timer Turn off your holiday lights before you go to bed and during the day by using a timer.


Planning for Guests
Be smart with your thermostat Turn the thermostat down when you have guests in your home. Extra bodies mean extra warmth at no-cost to you.

Preparing Meals
Use your microwave Use your microwave when possible since it uses less energy and requires a shorter cooking time than a conventional oven.

Keep the oven door closed The temperature inside your oven lowers as much as 25 degrees whenever the door is opened. So resist your urge to take a peek at what’s cooking inside, and use your oven light instead.


Home Appliances
Don’t overuse your dishwasher Run your dishwasher only when there is a full load. Try air-drying your dishes to conserve energy.
