NEW! For more about programmable thermostats, watch a video from ENERGY STAR®, and use this interactive resource to learn how to effectively adjust the settings.

You can save around 10% a year on your heating and cooling costs by simply adjusting your thermostat for eight hours a day. In fact, for each degree you dial back in the winter or dial up in the summer, you can save 1 to 3% on your energy costs.

Setting your winter thermostat to 68 degrees (lower when you’re away or asleep) and to 78 degrees in the summer (higher when you’re not at home or sleeping) can make a big difference in your energy bill.

Programmable thermostats make it easy to change heating and cooling settings automatically. You can adjust the temperature settings for your furnace or air conditioner according to a preset schedule that you determine.

The units come in 7-day models, 5/2-day models (one setting for weekdays; another for weekends) and 5/1/1 models (separate settings for weekdays/Saturdays/Sundays).

When shopping for a programmable thermostat, remember to look for the ENERGY STAR label. ENERGY STAR is the government-backed organization that certifies energy-efficient products.

Vectren residential and business natural gas customers who purchase a programmable thermostat are eligible for a $20 rebate. Click here for more information.
