Indiana customers encouraged to sign up for energy assistance, home weatherization

More than $100 million in state and federal assistance dollars are available to help qualifying Indiana customers with energy bills. Households that fall within 150% of federal poverty guidelines can access Indiana’s Energy Assistance Program (EAP) and the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), which provides free home weatherization services.

Natural gas customers who qualify for EAP will receive an additional automatic discount on their winter gas bills through the Universal Service Program (USP). For qualifying Vectren customers, monthly bill reductions range from 15 to 32% of the total bill (not including EAP benefits) in the months of December through May.

A family of four with an annual income of around $33,000 per year or a family of two making around $22,000 per year would likely qualify for EAP, the home weatherization program and the USP. Click here to access the federal poverty guidelines chart for various family sizes.

To apply, contact your local community agency. For more information, about the programs visit the Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority.
