Air quality in Vanderburgh County is improving, according to findings of the American Lung Association and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency trumpeted by local authorities.

January 2012 – Vectren positioned to readily comply with EPA’s mercury rule
As expected, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized more stringent rules in late 2011 via the Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS), which regulates emissions of mercury and other pollutants. Given Vectren’s significant investment in emissions control equipment over the past decade, the utility is in a position to largely comply with MATS without significant additional investment.

July 2011 – Vectren’s electric fleet to comply with new EPA air quality rule
Last summer, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized additional Clean Air Act protections that will reduce hundreds of thousands of tons of smokestack emissions from power plants throughout the nation. Given Vectren’s significant investment in emissions control equipment over the past decade, the utility is well-positioned to comply with the new mandate, known as the Cross-State Air Pollution Rule, without additional, significant capital investments.
